Sure, it’s summer, and no one really wants it to end. But next year, academically speaking, is just weeks away, or could have even begun already, depending on the school you attend. If you are a high school senior this year, you have lots to think about. You’ll have your last home game, your last dance at homecoming, and even your last high school final exam. Now is not too early a time to secure scholarships for furthering your education.
You probably think that scholarship season doesn’t begin for a few months, believing that you have lots of time for applications. Many scholarships do have spring award dates, but numerous scholarships have August deadlines. 1. Women in Public Finance Scholarship: $3,000; Deadline: August 1, 2015
This scholarship has an August 2015 deadline, which is fast approaching. Women in Public Finance administers this $3,000 award. Applicants must be planning to work in a public finance-related field.
To be eligible for this scholarship, you must be a college-bound female student, with a GPA of 3.0 or better. You must also exhibit demonstrable leadership skills within the context of extracurricular activities.
2. Mario Cugia Italian Studies Scholarship: up to $1000; Deadline: August 1, 2015
Awarding between $600 and $1,000, this scholarship is only for students majoring in Italian Studies, who are also Italian Roman Catholics. It is administered by the Italian Catholic Foundation.
$600 is awarded to a third-year student in college, who has declared an Italian major. $1,000 is awarded to a fourth-year student in a university setting who is continuing his or her Italian studies.
3. Max & Sam Goldsammler Scholarship Fund: $1,000: Deadline: Aug. 10, 2015
This scholarship awards between $300 and $1,000 to Jewish applicants, and it is run by Israel Free Spirit Birthright. Alumni sponsor the $1,000 grand prize, with second place receiving $500 and third place receiving $300. To be eligible, you need only be a Jewish college or high school student for the school year of 2015-2016.
4. American Indian Services Scholarship: Award varies: Deadline: August 15, 2015
This award varies in amount given, and only Native American students who are affiliated with a tribe of Native Americans may apply. American Indian Services administers this scholarship for Native Americans enrolled in a junior college, technical college or university. You must have at least 25% Northern Native American blood and a minimum 2.25 GPA. There are four applicaiton dates for this scholarship per calendar year: Feb. 15, May 15, Aug, 15, and Nov. 15.
5. Race to Inspire Scholarship:$500: Deadline: August 15, 2015
This essay scholarship contest awards $500 to the winner. You may be eligible if you have run in 5k, 10k, or marathon races. Simply write an essay that explains what inspires you to run, and talk about any challenges you face. What did you learn from training and competing? Your essay should be between 1,000 words and 2,000 words long.
6. SwissGear Ultimate Backpack Scholarship: $5,000: Deadline: August 31, 2015
These scholarships are valued at $5,000 and $2,500, and three awards are available. SwissGear offers you this extra help for college, so that you can be free to achieve greatness. The first place winner receives $5,000 in scholarship funding, while two reserve champ scholarships of $2,500 each are awarded to second and third place finishers.
7. Arctic Physical Therapy Scholarship: $500; Deadline: August 31, 2015
This $500 scholarship is eligible to students who have a 3.0 GPA or better in your last year of academics, and will be attending college part-time or full-time by the beginning of 2016. The award is administered by Arctic Physical Therapy, in Alaska.
8. Checks Superstore Scholarship: $1,000; Deadline: August 31, 2015
This $1,000 scholarship is awarded through Checks SuperStore. It is given annually to one US university or college student. It is an essay contest with the scholarship being awarded to the single student who sends in the best essay, overall. Check out their website for additional information.
9. Vectorworks Design Scholarship: $10,000 in total: Deadline: august 31, 2015
This valuable scholarship awards $10,000 to students with various qualifications and needs. When you apply, you must be accepted or enrolled in graduate or undergraduate classes for six credits or more. You must be attending or planning to attend an accredited university or college, and planning to pursue a degree in a subject that is design-oriented. The company website offers more information.
10. Rosa Parks Scholarship:$1000; Deadline: September 3, 2015
Here’s a bonus scholarship for early September so you can get a start on it now. This award is presented in remembrance of a key figure in the Equal Rights movement in the United States. It is administered by the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR). Applicants must be Muslim residents of Virginia, DC or Maryland, and you must have been accepted or enrolled to a full-time program of study at a US college.
